Not surprisingly, the whole Kowalski family suffers health and respiratory problems. Ryszard was recently diagnosed with fluid in his lungs. The Kowalski family no longer has the will or strength to fight the mold or to keep trying to engage with the housing authorities. Over the years, they have submitted more than a dozen applications for help; so far, nothing has come of it.
“We had just applied for more help, then my mother died,” says Hanna. “Now we really do not know how to sort out who is on which documents; you can get lost. The more so because, so far, nobody has wanted to help us in this matter.”
