Behind on the bills

Share of total population in arrears on utility bills.

Countries with high levels of people living in poverty have, not surprisingly, a high level of people who are in arrears on their utility bills. The highest rates of people falling behind on payments are in Greece (31.8%), Romania (28.6%) and Bulgaria (28.4%), with the rate in Greece having grown dramatically since the current economic crisis began in 2009. By contrast, only 2.2% of people in Luxembourg are behind on utility bill payments. Continue reading.
